A unique collaboration in which these masterpieces are performed in a special way. Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro The 1786 wedding of Figaro KV 492 was first performed at the Vienna Court Opera where it was not received too enthusiastically, but after a veritable triumphal march past the other major European opera houses, this became one of Mozart’s best operas in Vienna. Haydn gave Emma, Lady Hamilton the autograph of the work he had written especially for her and which paid tribute to Nelson, the cantata for soprano and keyboard ‘Lines from the Battle of the Nile’. By baroque composer G.F. Handel is on the program for the first part of Dixit Dominus. This is Handel’s setting of Psalm 110 The Lord speaks to my lord. The composer, then 22, incorporated insights he had gained during a study of Italian opera. Arvo Pärt is one of the greatest contemporary classical composers.
